6 March 2012 / WORLD BOOK DAY TREAT FOR TRURO HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

As well as sharing writing tips and experiences, Chris read from, ‘Alice in the Spotlight', the first book in her new series, The Secrets Club, which is due to be published in June. She also read from the manuscript of another of her books, planned for publication in November, and asked her audience to suggest possible titles. Those suggestions will be taken to the publishers and one may be chosen as the final title.

Chris, who was born in South Wales but now lives in west Cornwall, spent many years teaching English and Drama and working at the Minack Theatre before becoming a successful author. Her novels focus on issues familiar to teenagers and, in 2009, she won the YoungMinds award for her book ‘A Perfect Ten.'

"The girls were really enthusiastic and asked lots of questions," said School Librarian and Head of PSHE, Vicki Rendall, who organised the visit. "One student, Gisele Parnall, was particularly excited because she's a huge Chris Higgins fan."

"I've read all her books," said Gisele. "Hearing her talk was brilliant - great fun and very inspirational."

Following her visit, Chris said: "I can't tell you how much I enjoyed meeting the students. My readers mean a lot to me and I loved their enthusiasm and the honest feedback they provided."

World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of books and reading that is marked in more than 100 countries.

Ends 6 March 2012
