Celebrations are in order for Truro High School’s under 16 football team which has just earned its place in the County Cup Finals.

The team stormed to victory in the semi-final on Friday with a 6-1 win against Richard Lander.

As a result of their success, the school’s players will now be vying for the Cornwall County Cup in the championship finals.

Team coach, Mr John Craze said “It was a fantastic performance from start to finish. They didn’t let up and worked so well as a team – every girl on the pitch gave it her all and played so well. It was a brilliant game and it was all finished off with the final goal from Mia, which was nothing short of spectacular – she turned a front flip into a throw in, which Esme then crossed and Sarah put in goal. Amazing work, girls!”

Football is an extremely popular part of the school’s extensive sporting enrichment programme. Girls from Prep 5 to Year 11 can compete for the school’s football teams and there is a full training programme for pupils from Prep 3 upwards. There are so many age groups and players involved that, in order to ensure every pupil receives the individual attention they need, training sessions take place on four out of five days of week.
