Year 13 boarder Shirley is celebrating having received offers to read Pharmacy and Medical Biosciences from Cardiff, Leicester, Liverpool and Nottingham.

Nottingham, Cardiff and Liverpool are all part of the prestigious Russell Group.

Nottingham ranks 5th in the world in the 2021 QS World Rankings for pharmacy and pharmacology. The School came joint 1st in the UK on quality of research for Pharmacy Schools in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and is the only School of Pharmacy to have 100% of research at 4* in the ‘Impact on Society’ category.

Cardiff is the top school for Pharmacy in England and Wales according to The Complete University Guide 2020. It ranks Joint First School of Pharmacy in the UK for the quality of its teaching and research according to the Research Excellence Framework.

Associated with nine Nobel Prize winners, Liverpool is world-renowned for its high-quality teaching and research. 81% of its research is rated world leading and internationally excellent.

The University of Leicester is renowned for the discovery of genetic fingerprinting by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys as well as the genetic identification of the remains of King Richard III. It is ranked in the top 25 universities in the Times Higher Education REF Research Power rankings and placed 21st out of 766 universities in the world, in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking, placing it in the top 3%.

Shirley said: “I am incredibly happy to receive the offers. As well as studying for my A Levels, I am a Senior STEM Ambassador so I’m often helping students to solve challenging problems in clubs and workshops. I enjoy cooperating and communicating with girls of all ages and I think taking on this role really impressed the university admissions teams.”

Shirley currently studies Chemistry, Biology, Physic and Mathematics at A Level as well as undertaking an EPQ.
