New Sixth Form Scholarships annouced
Each of the scholarships is worth up to 50 per cent of standard tuition fees and applicants can win more than one up to a maximum total of 50 per cent. The new additions are a Governors’ Academic Scholarship, worth up to 15 per cent of fees, which is awarded on the basis of the cumulative marks achieved in numeracy and literacy exams taken on Friday 23 November this year and a Faculty Academic Scholarship, worth up to 50 per cent of fees, awarded on the basis of the marks achieved in the same exams plus those in an extra paper in a subject of the candidate’s choice. The subjects on offer are English literature, theatre studies, maths, biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, religious philosophy and ethics, French, Spanish, German and Latin.
Existing scholarships for music, sport and art and design, worth up to 50 per cent of fees, remain. There is also a Sixth Form Governors’ Bursary which is means-tested and which can either be given as a stand-alone award or in conjunction with a scholarship.
“Our A Level results are exceptional but what really gives our sixth formers the edge is a wide range of extra-curricular activities including the opportunity to take on school leadership responsibilities, valuable work experience, a lively social scene and small class sizes that really encourage personal development and aspiration,” said Deb Freeman, the school’s Head of Sixth Form. “I’m delighted that the portfolio of scholarships on offer has expanded, enabling more talented individuals to benefit from all that Truro High has to offer.”
A Sixth Form Information Evening is being held at the school on Monday 22 October from 7pm. For more information about the Sixth Form and its scholarships, call Frances Ellison on 01872 242904.
