Truro High Pre-Prep has just been shortlisted for a national award for educational excellence in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2021.

The shortlisting is another feather in the cap of the top all-girls’ independent school, which was last year named as the Small Independent School of the Year 2020.

Whittled down from hundreds of schools across the UK in 17 different categories, the shortlist includes schools such as Roedean, Benenden, Dulwich College, Cheltenham Ladies’ College and Rugby.

The awards aim to highlight the quality of the student experience in independent schools and celebrate the transformative and innovative ways in which the winning institutions prepare pupils for their future lives.

Head of Prep, Mrs Katie Hinks said: “It’s so important to me that students learn in a child-centred, age-appropriate way and that is what our Pre-Prep does so well – it’s such a dynamic and forward-thinking place to be. Learning can be really brave and bold when children are put in charge of it. It’s practical, tangible, hands-on and play-based and why shouldn’t we let them learn in the way they know best?”

“Our students are still achieving the high standards they need to thrive but they’re doing it in a way that’s holistic and that they’re really enjoying. Our girls love school so much and it’s because, whilst the teachers manage and structure their learning, they are leading it. It’s all about guiding and supporting them on the learning journey that they want to take and it means they reach for stars and achieve amazing things. It’s so inspiring and I wish every child had the opportunity to have such an exciting and magical approach to the start of their education. What our Pre-Prep has is something really unique and special so I’m delighted to see it celebrated in this way.”

The winners of all categories in the annual Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2021 will be announced later in the autumn.
