Truro High School's under 16 hockey players are one step closer to once again claiming the national title having been crowned Cornwall county champions yesterday evening.

It’s the first time the tournament has taken place since the start of the pandemic and the team’s success marks the start of a journey which last competitive season saw the school’s under 16s crowned National Tier 3 Champions.

The team won every game it played by an average of 3 points and only conceded two goals over the course of the entire tournament.

The semi-final against Penair School saw Truro High’s players win 4-0 whilst their 3-1 victory against Penryn College in the final secured their place as county champions.

As a result of their success, the girls will compete against the best of the South West at the tournament’s regional finals in November as they continue to defend their national title.

Truro High Director of Sport and England Hockey Coach of the Year 2019, Ms Kat Redd said: “It’s the first opportunity we’ve had to defend our county, regional and national under 16 titles and I couldn’t be more proud of the girls. They made significant progress throughout the day, despite the fact that many of them haven’t played together competitively before, and they were absolutely awesome. We can’t wait for regionals.”
