Our students achieved straight A*/As in more than a third of subjects studied including Business, Art, Geography, French and Spanish.
In 15 out of the 17 subjects studied this year, half or more of all A level passes were at grades A*/A. Today there were tears of delight as the girls received the news that they will be heading to their universities of choice.
An incredible 41% of students achieved straight A*/As in their exams and many girls chose to study an EPQ alongside their A levels with 100% passing at A*/A.
It’s another fantastic year of results for Truro High School, which consistently ranks number 1 in Cornwall for A Levels.
Headmistress Sarah Matthews said: “The girls at Truro High never fail to impress me and I could not be more proud of the strong, kind and dynamic young women who have collected their results today. They have come through so much during the pandemic and have done so with strength, determination and resilience and that is reflected in the excellent results they have achieved. I would like to thank all the teachers who went above and beyond to ensure the girls not only continued to thrive academically during the pandemic but were looked after pastorally as well.”
Among those celebrating, former Head Girl Mina who achieved three A*s and two As and is now heading to university on her pathway to becoming a doctor.
She said: “I have really had the best time ever in Sixth Form where I not only had the right environment to study but was also surrounded by the most amazing group of friends and teachers who all gave me so much support.”
Mina’s parents were equally thrilled and said: “We could not have picked a better school for our daughter. It has been extremely supportive par excellence. She has become more confident and independent and it has shaped her character so positively.”
Also celebrating is Hannah who has spent the summer holiday caring for baby hedgehogs at ‘Prickles and Paws’ rescue centre. Today she received the excellent grades she needs to begin her degree in Veterinary Medicine.
Good news too for Aine whose four A*/As have secured her place to read Politics and International Relations at university in London.
There was much to celebrate in the Creative Arts too with 83% of all Arts and Textiles passes at A*/A and 100% at A*-B. Lori is heading to Falmouth University where she has won and international scholarship to study Interior Design, rounding off a successful year that has also seen her gain a Gold Arts Award.
The celebrations were not confined to school with many girls opening their envelopes in other parts of the world. Ex-pat Aneka celebrated her four A*s with her sisters and parents in Hong Kong and will soon be off to UCL to read History.
Other university destinations this year include Bristol for Creative and Professional Writing, Exeter for Law, Durham for English, Newcastle for Psychology, UCL for Philosophy and Edinburgh for History.
Headmistress, Mrs Matthews, told students: “You are formidable young people with incredibly bright futures ahead and your A-Level results are just one part of the puzzle of your excellence. What you have been through in the last two years is unprecedented and the determination and tenacity you have shown as a year group has astounded us; we are all so very, very proud of you!”
