It’s understood to be the first time a school from Cornwall has broken into the exclusive Top 100 Independent Schools league table which considers the results of more than 2,500 private schools around the UK.

Headmistress Sarah Matthews said: “This is a phenomenal achievement and a wonderful recognition of the determination of our students and the dedication of their teachers. As a school we continually strive to enable every student to fulfil her potential, encouraging all to set bold, ambitious goals and to face challenge with a growth mind-set. This result is testament to the fact that they do”

The ranking of 68 puts Truro High ahead of every other school in Devon and Cornwall with Exeter School ranked 70th, the Maynard School ranked 116 and, more locally, Truro School ranked 222.

The recent A Level results showed Truro High School pupils awarded a 100% pass rate with 59% of all passes at the very top grades of A*/A. The school is also in the top 5% of all schools and colleges in the UK for value added at A Level.

Mrs Matthews said: “We are very proud of the value we add because it clearly shows the improvements being made by all of the students. We are equally proud that our students also used their time at Truro High to develop valuable skills, such as training as lifeguards, acquiring qualifications enabling them to teach English as a foreign language and completing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. It is these additional skills, along with their tremendous academic results, that will stand them in excellent stead in the years to come.”

94% of girls at the school are now preparing to head off to the universities of their choice with Oxford, Warwick, Reading, York and London College of Fashion among the destinations.
