The team won every single match it played by an average of 1.6 goals.

Even more impressive, two Truro High players were ranked in the top 5 goal scorers throughout the entire national finals. Year 11 twin sisters Katie and Lucy Day both scored significantly more goals than the vast majority of their rivals throughout the day.

It’s the second time the team has earned a national ranking having placed 3rd in the UK in the championships last year.

15-year-old goalie, Milly said: “We were absolutely buzzing. It’s such an achievement and all our hard work has paid off. All the support from everyone at school has been brilliant.”

16-year-old Lucia said: “This really means a lot to us. We all actually got a bit emotional afterwards – I’ve been playing with a lot of these girls since we were really small so it’s amazing to have come this far and won the national title.”

It’s been an incredible journey to earn the national title for the school, Cornwall and the South West.

The players have worked tirelessly over the course of the season and confirmed their place in the national finals when they were crowned South West Tier 3 Regional Champions last November. They didn’t lose a single match throughout the entire regional tournament.

Team coach, Miss Kat Redd said: “I shed a few tears yesterday because this has been so many years in the making with this particular group of girls. We’ve been training some of them since they were in Prep 3 here at school. To see the journey that they’ve made and see it all come to a head was just an amazing moment – I was overwhelmed with pride.”

Kat currently holds the title of England Hockey’s Coach of the Year. One of only five people in the country to make the shortlist, Kat beat off competition from finalists including three England Hockey performance centre coaches and the coach of the gold medal-winning England Over 35s Women’s Team to earn this prestigious title.
