As part of the celebrations, the afternoon saw girls across the senior school taking on languages challenges. They have also been tasked to continue their language learning at home by taking on challenges ranging making a phone call in another tongue to watching a foreign-language film without the subtitles.
Our Pre-Prep also got involved with every girl challenged to learn how to say hello in a different language that morning.
As it’s a very special birthday for European Day of Languages, students of all ages also got involved in its Great European Bake Of. From a paella-inspired chocolate sponge to Spanish lemon cake, Italian chocolate salami, Black Forest Gateaux and Welsh sheep cupcakes, there were a wealth of delicious European inspired treats to mark the occasion. All of the creations have been entered into an international competition which will see the 20 most original desserts included in a special European Day of Languages 20th anniversary recipe book.
The cakes were all sold later in the day in aid of our Cambodian partner school, Brasat Primary.
Languages form an important part of the curriculum at Truro High with girls as young as four building the foundations to become bilingual. French, Spanish and Latin all have their place in the timetable and, for those who wish, there is also the opportunity to study GCSE Ancient Greek as an extra-curricular subject.
