According to the old adage ‘geography is everywhere’ and we aim to prove this in a fun, thought-provoking way. Providing the background knowledge required to understand local, national and global events, geography is a very popular GCSE and A Level option in the school – encouraging the girls to be curious about the world around them and teaching them valuable transferable skills like map reading, carrying out investigations, data handling and report writing.

In Years 7-9 we look at a wide range of topics including the causes and responses to natural disasters, globalisation of industry, population issues and development inequalities. At GCSE we follow the AQA specification ‘A’ units on tectonics, rivers, coasts, tourism, population change and the development gap. At A Level, we build on the skills and knowledge developed throughout the school, studying challenging topical subjects from the Edexcel specification.

Fieldwork is considered an important way for our girls to experience the world around them and we run regular trips both locally and further afield.
