Following the success of their inaugural exhibition last year, Truro High School is delighted to be welcoming back Prime Women Artists to our Gallery in March for their latest exhibition, Driven to Abstraction: exploring internal and external landscapes.
This exciting new exhibition is part of an ongoing collaboration with Prime Women and the Truro High School Art Department, aimed at shining a spotlight on Cornish-born female art to embolden creative inspiration in young women.
Local artists Sharon Bruster and Maggie Cochran, co-founded the all-female Cornish collective in 2023 as an informal network for practicing women artists living in Cornwall. Their aim is to support women artists who refuse to be made ‘invisible’ through societal perceptions of older aged women, while raising the profile of the arts for women and girls in the county.
Curated by artists Sharon Bruster and Fran Marks, Driven to Abstraction will feature diverse works from 17 members of the all-female Cornish Prime Women collective, including Truro High Schools very own Art and Textiles teachers, Mrs Tutin and Mrs Graven!
Sharon said: “A range of thought-provoking abstract works in different mediums, including paintings, mixed media, photography, printmaking, textiles and collage, have been selected for the exhibition. We are excited to hold our second show at the beautiful art gallery in the school grounds… creating a fabulous opportunity to share our work with the students and inspire them to be creative”
The exhibition will have its grand opening on Tuesday 12 March.
Open 12 – 22 March, 10:00 – 17:00 daily.
Truro High School, The Gallery, TR21 2HU
Free entry – open to the public.
