Truro High students crowned best in the South West and qualify for national athletics championships

Following a season of outstanding athletic success, four Truro High students have ranked amongst the top athletes in the South West. Three have even been selected to compete at the National Preparatory School’s Athletics Championships.

Prep 6 Poppy, Prep 6 Hannah, Year 7 Camilla and Year 8 Lily all took home a number of podium places in the South West Schools’ Regional Championships last weekend.

Whilst Camilla and Lily won gold in the javelin and discus respectively, it was a particularly momentous day for 11-year-old Poppy who took home gold in the High Jump and Long Jump as well as silver in the 1500m.

Her classmate Hannah also put in some impressive performances and took home silver in the 800m and bronze in the Long Jump.

This marks the girls out as some of the best athletes in their age group in the entire South West of England.

As a result of their success, Poppy, Camilla and Lily have even qualified to compete against the country’s brightest and best young athletes at nationals in Birmingham this July.
