Year 13 Olivia is celebrating this week having earned offers to read Psychology at five top UK universities - that’s every single one she applied to.

Olivia has received offers to study at Manchester, Keele, Cardiff, Birmingham and Bangor.

Part of the prestigious Russell Group, Manchester ranks 7th, Cardiff 8th and Birmingham 12th in the UK in the QS World University Rankings for psychology.

Bangor’s Psychology department ranks 35th in the UK in the Complete University Guide whilst Keele University ranks 35th overall in the Guardian University Guide 2021.

Olivia said: “I was so surprised and proud when I got offers from all of my university choices. I think that all the support from the school allows everyone in Sixth Form to achieve their very best and I am thrilled to see that all the effort and time I have put into writing my personal statement and doing extra work outside of the usual lessons has paid off.”

“I have felt very supported throughout the process – all the teachers have been willing to help in any way they can. Mrs Sharp, in particular, has been incredibly helpful during the application process and has made what can be a daunting and scary time a lot more manageable. My psychology teacher, Mrs Pooley, has been so helpful and during the first lockdown she gave us all the opportunity to do research on any topic we wanted. I think this was so helpful as it was not part of our normal A Level course.”

Olivia hopes to pursue a career in Forensic Psychology as part of the criminal justice system. Undertaking degree-level projects here at school has also given Olivia a taste for academic research and she hopes to publish scientific papers over the course of her career.

It’s an exciting time of the year for our Upper Sixth who have been celebrating the start of what looks like a bumper crop of offers from top universities. 10% have already received offers from every single university they applied to and many more are waiting to find out what places they have been offered.
