English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is offered to girls, whose first language is not English, to give them the opportunity to develop a sufficient level of fluency in English to enable them to easily access the curriculum. This will also help them use English confidently at Truro High School and beyond.

EAL classes are small and friendly, and the type of provision is flexible to meet individual requirements. Generally pupils work on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills alongside grammatical accuracy but they are also welcome to bring work from other subjects if support is needed.

All EAL pupils attend mainstream English lessons and sit GCSE English at the end of Year 11. In the Sixth Form, they may study towards an internationally recognised qualification such as IELTS.

There is an additional charge for EAL lessons.
