The award-winning girls’ school is now rated as the highest-performing school or college in Cornwall for its value added score having received figures well above the national average for A Level progress. Placed 41st in the league table, the school ranks in the top 1% of schools in England for value-added.

The achievement comes on top of the school’s position as number one in Cornwall for both A level and GCSE results in 2016.

The value-added measure reflects progress made by pupils between the end of key stage 4 and their A level studies, compared to similar students across England. It shows that each pupil taking A levels at Truro High gained an average of 0.57 of a grade higher than they would have been expected to achieve given their GCSE results.

The school’s ranking places them well within the table’s top 50 educational establishments in the country.

Truro High also outperformed all schools and colleges countywide for average pupil grades, grades in best three A levels and percentage of pupils achieving AAB or higher in two facilitating subjects.

The announcement rounds off a fantastic year at the School which achieved a 100% pass rate at A level with almost half of all passes at grades A* or A. Of the many exams taken in subjects ranging from Latin to Chemistry and from Textiles to Maths, 72% of students achieved all their passes at grades A*-B. In three subjects there were no passes below a grade A.

Headmaster, Dr Glenn Moodie said: “I am absolutely delighted to see our new ranking which is testament to all the hard work put in over the last two years by our staff and pupils. These scores confirm that our pupils are not only academic high flyers but truly exceed expectations. Our girls enjoy learning and benefit greatly from the individual attention that we can give them with many achieving grades they had never thought possible. I am very proud of them all.”
