This collaborative project is entirely made up of work written by the school’s senior pupils. This includes Year 7 Sylvie, Year 7 Lila, Year 7 Oriana, Year 7 Olive, Year 7 Charlene, Year 9 Molly, Year 9 Issy and Year 9 India.

Nearly 80 copies have already been sold on Amazon and the book is also on sale at the likes of Barnes and Noble and Audible.

It was created as part of the THS creative writing club with the support of published novelist, Paul Stuart. The process not only involved writing and editing the material but also dealing with all aspects of publishing from brokering the best book deal to typesetting and cover design.

In his foreword, Paul said: “The group members have worked diligently and the result is a varied and interesting collection of poetry and stories. You will find humour, sadness, love and much more in these pages but the most striking thing is the talent of the students, whose ages range from 10 to 15 years at the time of writing.”

The book is entitled ‘Dunkin’ Penguins’ so called because, during creative writing club, the group dunk penguin biscuit bars in their hot chocolate, whilst sharing ideas and writing.

Last week, the girls were invited to BBC Radio Cornwall to speak about the book and read their poetry. There was also the chance to explore the studio after the broadcast.

Year 9 Issy said: “It’s so exciting to have the chance to put your name to something and have it out there for the whole world to see – it’s an amazing feeling! We’re planning on writing a second book this year and I can’t wait!”

The group is hoping to expand for its next publication and has already been joined by Year 7 Plum on this exciting journey.
