14 December 2009 / Festive Play Brings Arabia To Truro

Famed for saving herself from being killed by her husband, the Sultan, by regaling him with 1001 Arabian Nights' tales, Scheherazade conjures up a world that is both exotic and bewitching.

Aladdin and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves are just two of the famous stories and both were featured in Truro High's colourful and well-directed production.

All year groups from Prep 3 upwards were involved in the play which included lots of music and dancing. There were also some spectacular props and costumes created by staff and parents - including a very large lamp for Aladdin's genie and a chest glittering with treasure for the 'open Sesame' cave in Ali Baba.

All the main roles were taken by Prep 6 girls, some of whom took on several parts. Many of them sang solo - demonstrating confidence and ability way beyond their years.

"I'm always amazed at how well the girls perform," said Truro High Prep School Headmistress Alison Miller.

"They have all worked really hard to get the production together - as have the staff and parents who, as always, have been magnificent. "Judging by the laughter and applause on the night, everyone enjoyed themselves."
