27 May 2009 / High School's Jordanna Is Uk's Number Two High Jumper

She started on a high when she was awarded the Cornwall Athletics Club's Best Female Performance of 2008 trophy and from that point it just got better.

At the athletics County Championships she won the hurdles event, with a new personal best time of 12.6 seconds, before winning the high jump with a personal best of 1.65m, a height which beat the championship record set 17 years ago in 1992.

At one stage during the championships, Jordanna's jump height put her as joint UK number 1, but that was beaten during the weekend at another County Championship event leaving her as joint second highest high jumper for her age group in the UK.

With the athletics season only just beginning, Jordanna has set herself the target of clearing 1.68m before September. She currently trains three times a week with the Cornwall Athletics Club as well as during lunchtimes and PE lessons at school.

Proud mum, Carole Morrish, said the whole family was thrilled with Jordanna's performance and extremely grateful to and the Athletics Club for their constant support.

She said: "The coaches at the club and the staff at the school are so good. We have been to see Caroline Pascoe, Truro High's new Headmistress, who realises Jordanna has a talent that needs nurturing and has promised the school will do everything possible to help."

Mrs Pascoe said: "Jordanna is a fabulous ambassador for Truro High School and we are all extremely proud of her. She works hard to achieve such outstanding results and we believe it is our duty to support her in any way we can."
