22 March 2011 / SUCCESSES GALORE AT TRURO MUSIC FESTIVAL
It was seventeen year old Nancy May, though, who really hit the festival headlines by winning all twelve of her classes and being awarded a total of 17 trophies. Amongst the numerous accolades she collected was the vocal championship cup, the award for best 16-21 singer and the trophy for most outstanding musician of the week. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, Nancy is aiming for a career in music.
Other winners were sixteen year old Lydia Mee who won her pop class, Maisie Tooley who won her sacred class and Louise Johns who won her folk song class. Aunt and niece duo Molly and Abigail Leigh, both eleven, won their violin duet class and Emily Elwell Deighton not only won her class but also got the highest mark in the whole festival for verse speaking.
"I warmly congratulate all the girls who took part in the event," said Headteacher Caroline Pascoe. "I know they've worked very hard to prepare themselves for the competition and their efforts have certainly paid off. The results have been outstanding and they've made us all very proud."
