16-year-old Maddie this month launched Penrose Craft Studio, an online shop selling unique handmade jewellery.
Maddie said: “I have always loved being creative and this was a way for me to share that! I love that little things can really make someone smile, especially with everything going on at the moment, and that’s why I decided to start selling my creations.”

Maddie currently studies A Level Business Studies, Textiles, English Literature and Psychology here at Truro High.
17-year-old Fiona’s passion for keeping the county’s shores clean was the inspiration for her business, Beach Gems, an online shop that sells artwork made with sea glass, pottery and shells from beaches around the Cornish coastline. The shop opened its virtual doors this month and has already enjoyed a huge number of sales.
Fiona said: “I have always loved beachcombing and creating so decided to take the opportunity to turn my hobby into a business. My creations are an ideal gift for a loved one to raise spirits during lockdown or would make a lovely Mother’s Day gift. I’m so pleased with how popular it’s been.”

It’s an exciting time for Fiona who this term earned the rare distinction of receiving offers from every single university she applied to. She has received offers to read Zoology and Wildlife Conservation at Exeter, Sussex, Bath Spa, UWE Bristol and Harper Adams University.
Truro High School has a number of enterprising students who run businesses alongside their studies. These range from Year 11 Evie selling linocut greetings cards through Etsy and local art galleries and Year 10 Melissa who, when she’s not fencing for Team GB, sells handmade acrylic ‘pour’ prints to the public to Year 8s Plum and Daisy, whose artisan brownie making business won a national enterprise award.
