The High School’s Melissa represented Team GB earlier this month in the Individual Women’s Cadet Sabre World Championships, finishing in 8th place against fencers from across the globe.

Melissa finished in the highest position for any British athlete for many years.  Even current GB Senior Number 1, Caiti Maxwell, only achieved 18th in the Cadet Women’s Sabre in Bourges in 2016. Melissa fenced absolutely brilliantly, conceding only to the defending world champion.

This is a simply phenomenal achievement, especially for a 16-year-old also working towards her GCSEs – Well done to Melissa and her coach Balázs Kuruczwe. We are all so proud of you here at the High School, and we know this is just the beginning of great things!
