Truro High’s under 16 hockey team has been ranked third in the whole of the South West at the Tier 3 regional finals, despite almost half of the team being aged 14 or under. In fact, the team’s three youngest players are just 13-years-old.

The school’s players put in fantastic performances throughout the day. They won 2-1 against Colyton Grammar School, 1-0 against Clayesmore School and 3-0 against Whitecross Hereford High. Their success saw them progress to the quarter-finals where they won 1-0 against West Buckland taking them to the semi-finals of the competition, which resulted in a 1-0 win for Ribston Hall High School.

The girls put up an incredibly strong attack in the semi-finals, spending much of the game in their opponent’s shooting circle and forcing save after save from their keeper.

Director of Sport, Ms Kat Redd said: “The girls were phenomenal all day and should be so proud of how they performed! To be recognised as one of the top teams in the South West is an incredible achievement, especially considering that some of the girls were competing against players who were several years their senior. A massive well done to you all!”
