Pie Corbett is a writer, author, poet and teacher who has edited and written over 200 books. He is also well-known for creating the ‘Talk for Writing’ teaching approach which has transformed English lessons in schools up and down the country.

Every week this term, girls in the school’s Prep 4, 5 and 6 classes now have the chance to learn about creative writing in a face-to-face virtual lesson with the published author. The lessons, which started yesterday, will centre on tech and blogging and focus on audience and purpose, as well as language choice technique and sentence structure. They are being delivered through the Teaching Live platform.

Head of Prep, Mrs Katie Hinks said: “Pie’s whole philosophy is very much aligned with ours – it’s all about the power of storytelling and oracy is at the heart of it. This is a fabulous set of English lessons and we are all very excited about this opportunity and all that it can bring to the children’s writing development. The girls have come to virtual school today so excited and engaged about their learning and they are incredibly proud of the work they did in yesterday’s lesson.”

Truro High is one of only 50 schools in the UK and the only school in Cornwall to receive these sought-after lessons.
