Against the UK’s top young fencers, Melissa placed 3rd in the Girls’ Mount-Haes Sabre.

Nearly 1500 fencers competed in this prestigious tournament, which is estimated to be the largest youth fencing event in the whole of Europe.

Melissa’s national win comes as the young fencer prepares to compete with the England U15 Sabre team this weekend.

This is her second national call-up having competed with the U13 squad this time last year.

The England call up came after she was ranked 6th nationally in her age group.

She will now travel with the England team to Poland this weekend to take part in Challenge Wratislavia. This prestigious tournament will see top young fencers from across the world coming together to throw down the gauntlet on an international stage.

Melissa started fencing when she was just six years old using a soft foam sabre. She trains with Truro Fencing Club at the club’s headquarters in town.
