EAL at Truro High School

Truro High School for Girls warmly welcomes applications from International Students and we thrive having a number of different nationalities and cultures in our community.

Learning English to a high level is one of the main reasons our girls choose Truro High School. Our EAL support aims to teach English knowledge and skills to enable our girls to fully access the school curriculum.

On arrival, students are assessed via the Oxford Placement Test (OPT) using the CEFR criteria (Common European Framework Reference) for Languages. If required, specialist EAL lessons are tailored according to an individual’s needs either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.

Progress is monitored regularly and our EAL teacher liaises closely with the subject teachers. In addition, our EAL Department provides Sixth Form students the opportunity to support their English Language skills by offering tuition for the internationally recognised IELTS test to enable them to access their higher educational institution of choice.
