Truro High Year 11 Melissa is celebrating having just been crowned National Junior Under 20 Sabre Champion 2021.

She also placed 2nd in the Cadet Under 17 National Sabre Championships, losing in the final by a nail-biting 14-15.

If her winning streak continues, Melissa has the chance to compete for Great Britain this October.

She has previously been selected to compete with the GBR Cadet team for a number of competitions as well as for the England U13 and U15 Sabre squads.

It’s an exciting time for the young fencer who this Summer scooped a gold and bronze at the Academy Sabre British Ranking Competition.

Melissa’s proud parents said: “We are incredibly proud of Melissa and the discipline and dedication she has shown. She continued to train with online sessions facilitated by Truro Fencing Club during the whole of lockdown. It is not easy for her juggling school work commitments and training six times a week but her hard work is paying off and we are thrilled for her.”
