Year 13 Fiona is celebrating this week having earned the rare distinction of receiving offers from every single university she applied to. She has received offers to read Zoology and Wildlife Conservation at Exeter, Sussex, Bath Spa, UWE Bristol and Harper Adams University.

Part of the prestigious Russell Group, Exeter ranks 7th in the world and 2nd in the UK for Ecology in the Shanghai Rankings Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

Harper Adams has been the UK’s top-rated modern university for the last five years, according to the Times Good University Guide. It is a leading specialist in tackling the future development of our planet’s land management, sustainable business and animal sciences.

The University of Sussex is ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the UK, with over 75% of our research activity is categorised as world-leading or internationally excellent, whilst UWE Bristol and Bath Spa both place in the top 100.

With a wealth of options to choose from, she is now in the process of deciding which offer to take up.

Fiona said: “I am very pleased to have received offers from all of my university choices. My work experience in handling both small and large animals, along with school leadership roles such as language ambassador and peer mentor have all really shown the admissions teams my passion for wildlife.”

Alongside her studies, Fiona has been a keen member of our Aspiring Medics Programme, acted a Modern Languages ambassador, trained as a school lifeguard, acted as a peer mentor, trained with Cornwall’s top chefs as part of ‘Taste at Truro High’ and undertaken work experience at Dartmoor Zoological Park. Last summer, Fiona ran the equivalent of a marathon in three days to support the park when Covid-19 caused it to lose hundreds of thousands of pounds in critical funding.

Fiona hopes to pursue a career in wildlife conservation and is now one step closer to making that dream a reality.
