Lowena is leading two after-school sessions of her virtual contemporary dance club each week, one aimed at Prep School pupils and one for Senior. In these, the girls will choreograph routines via video chat as well as taking the opportunity to share their skills and have lots of fun. It is open to girls of all abilities.

She will also offer the girls her expertise in contemporary dance through online tutorials.

Lowena said: “I really wanted to start a contemporary dance club because of its real and raw connection to a person’s emotions. Contemporary dance is quite a cathartic practice and I hope that, through dancing, club members will find a positive outlet through which to express their emotions and channel them into movement.”

Lowena is no stranger to dance instruction having both choreographed and led a large number of rehearsals for Dance Show LIVE! over the last two years.

Lowena’s journey in the dance studio has seen her come a long way since her diagnosis of scoliosis when she was in Year 10. The condition causes back pain and curvature of the spine and meant that Lowena thought she might never dance again.

The young dancer however, never gave up. Four years on from treatment that included a seven hour operation, she continues to go from strength to strength. She is currently working towards her advanced foundation vocational exam in Ballet and, before lockdown, regularly performed with her dance school’s contemporary advanced class.
