The event was run in partnership with the SW Women in Business CIC, a networking community for female entrepreneurs in the South West.

The showcase offered the school’s Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity to gain expertise from women from a wide variety of business sectors as well as having the chance to attend more detailed workshops on topics including ‘Developing your Personal Brand’, ‘Business Planning’ and ‘Networking and Collaboration’.

The morning was rounded off with a networking lunch for guests and the school’s Sixth Form students.

SW WiB co-founder and award-winning journalist and presenter, Alexis Bowater said: “I really buy into the philosophy that ‘if you can see it you be it’ and I think people forget that it’s relatively recently and in our own living memory that there weren’t that many female role models around. I think these girls already know what their skill set is, its inside of them and that will only be stimulated by seeing somebody else doing it.”

“Events like today are to show these young women that there’s a massive informal network of women who are there and ready to help. That idea of peer to peer support, informal mentoring and inspirational speakers is absolutely core to what we do.”

The event was staged as a part of the school’s on-going Future Ready programme to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs and ensure all girls leave Truro High with the knowledge and skills they need to survive and thrive in the world of commerce.

The organisations involved were Barclays, Bowater Communications, House of Colour, Sekoya, Hannah’s Games, The Palm Tree, Webfoot Design, Pound and Co Surveyors, Lang Bennets, Waitrose, Treway Farm, Milkwood Publishing, Trading Standards, the Army, NHS, Emily Wheeler Writing, K & L Hair and Makeup, Handelsbanken Wealth Management, Polmanter Touring Park and Mannings Hotel.
