This Wednesday, the girls followed in the footsteps of the world’s top players and put in some truly stunning performances on the pitches at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to win this coveted position.

Our players were, in fact, the only team to score a goal against the competition’s overall winners, Sevenoaks School.

Even more impressive, three of our girls were ranked in the top 10 goal scorers throughout the entire national finals. Year 10s Lucy, Katie and Olivia all scored significantly more goals than the vast majority of their rivals throughout the day.

The team even got to go behind the scenes at the home of national and international hockey. They were especially excited on entering the changing rooms to mentally prepare where some of the most famous names in intentional hockey have done the very same.

It’s been an incredible journey to earn this accolade and represent Cornwall and the South West on a national stage.

The team has worked tirelessly over the course of the season and confirmed its place in the national finals when they were crowned South West Tier 3 Regional Champions last November. They didn’t lose a single match throughout the entire regional tournament.

Director of Sport, Ms Kat Barbery-Redd said “The girls played outstanding hockey on a very big stage and the experience will stay with them for a lifetime. Mr Elliott and I were extremely proud of how the girls represented the school with passion and determination throughout. What a fabulous experience for everyone involved!”

“Myself and Mr Elliott would like to personally thank Mr and Mrs Roberts for their additional support in transport and supervision throughout the trip and to all the supporters who made the long journey to share in this wonderful opportunity.”

The Tier 3 Championships are open to ‘emerging school’ teams, which do not frequently supply hockey players to regional and national squads.
