Having achieved her provisional Black Belt last year, Year 9 Charlotte has been busy preparing for this test of fitness, skill and mental fortitude and her hard work paid dividends as she returned home from her grading test with a first degree Black Belt Shodan proudly wrapped around her waist.

Charlotte was one of only ten Cornish students who earned their Shodan or Shodan Ho at the grading which took place in Plymouth.

She is the youngest Cornish student in the Doryoku Ryu Karate Jutsu Club to be awarded the Black Belt grade of Shodan.

The young martial artist finished her grading just before midnight on Friday following a gruelling 5 hour test in front of the club’s chief instructors. It was the first grading for the club where female students outnumbered male.

There was no let-up of the pace once Charlotte found out that she had passed with flying colours as she then joined students back in Truro for a two hour seminar with the co-founders of the club Renshi Ann and Renshi Damien.

Charlotte has been training with the Doryoku Ryu Karate Jutsu since August 2012 and spends up to six hours in the dojo every week.

Delighted with their young martial artist’s success, Charlotte’s instructors are already helping her prepare for her Black Belt Nidan as she continues to thrive in the dojo.
