Last weekend, the Truro High School chess player stormed to victory in the 5th Brainstormchess Junior Rapidplay tournament proudly raising the ‘Top Girl’ and ‘Overall Silver’ trophies in her age group above her head.
Ornela won an outstanding five out of six games against fierce competition from top young players from all across the country.
It’s an exciting time for Ornela, who last month proved her prowess at the Regional Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge and earnt a place to represent the school and Cornwall in the competition’s national Gigafinal.
This is the second time Ornela has taken this prestigious regional chess title and gone on to the national finals having been crowned Under 7 Suprema a year ago.
She will also be joined by her fellow Prep School chess player Leela who took the Under 10 Girls Suprema title at this regional competition.
