The school entered two teams – Seapurse and Rhetoric – who have worked tirelessly over the past few months to perfect their products.

The finals of the competition saw the girls taking on teams from across Cornwall with Business Studies teacher, Mr Tom Elliott, incredibly impressed by their performance.

He said: “Seapurse won the prize for Best Corporate Social Responsibility for their innovative and rather fetching recycled purses. The judges were amazed at the potential for the company and the profit they were earning whilst stopping land fill.”

Created from recycled neoprene wetsuits, the team’s bespoke purses have proven a big hit over the course of the year offering customers a stylish way to do their bit for the environment whilst keeping an eye on counting the pennies.

Rhetoric also headed home with their heads held high as they were crowned winners of the Young Enterprise Special Recognition prize. Each year this prize is awarded to the team who has made the greatest progress throughout the competition, dealing with the real life tensions involved in starting up and running a business.

Mr Elliott said: “Rhetoric really impressed the judges with their passion and commitment. The team have come a long way on their journey this year and I’m delighted to see their hard work being recognised.”

The team will be hosting a pop-up shop for their one-of-a-kind fashion patches at break time on Wednesday 9 May, so make sure your daughter has brought in her purse to get her hands on the perfect accessory to give everything from handbags to pencil cases a stylish makeover.
