With spellbinding outfits ranging from Mad Hatters and Mary Poppins to a gaggle of Hermione Grangers, girls from the age of four to eleven swapped their usual uniforms for magical themed costumes as part of the school’s annual Book Fair week.

Prep School staff also got in on the fun dressing as characters from ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis. Pupils were particularly impressed by Prep 1 teacher Mrs Kate Roberts who came in as a cardboard cut-out wardrobe.

Head of Prep, Mrs Alison Miller said: “Days like this get our budding bookworms buzzing about reading and really bring learning to life. Good reading starts early and children who share books with others are more likely to develop language skills and advanced reading levels. We have a very high standard of reading in the Prep School and we want to get our girls’ imaginations fired up and encourage them to become avid readers.”

Following the highly successful launch of the initiative last year, the school plans to annually sell books which they recommend for pupils’ literacy development and literary enjoyment.

The books are supplied by Waterstones bookshops and the school earns a commission from every purchase which will be spent on books for their Prep Library.
