Entitled ‘The Last Post’, the artwork was part of a commemorative event involving the school’s Drama, History, Music, Textiles and Art departments working together to remember the centenary of World War 1.

The Art department launched the poppy drawing campaign as part of The Big Draw, a national drawing event which takes place annually. Everyone in the Truro High School community was invited to draw a poppy with contributions collected from nursery, prep school, senior school, sixth form, staff and parents.

The poppies were then assembled into a large piece, symbolising the collective efforts of all the soldiers who lost their lives in war. All contributions of varying abilities were included to communicate the idea that sacrifices were made by all levels of society for the greater good. The soldier silhouette was sketched from a famous war photograph by Earnest Brooks.

The installation is on show to the public in the cathedral until after Remembrance Day when it will return home to school.
