Truffle – an 8-week-old Bernese Mountain dog – has joined the school in order to support student wellbeing and act as a companion dog.

Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Matthews said: “Truffle is a fabulous new addition to the THS family. The members of our community have truly opened their hearts to welcome him and the smiles on the girls’ faces this morning said it all. The feeling of joy and comfort that having a dog around engenders is something very special and he will be a fantastic companion to our girls and beneficial to their wellbeing.”

With parental permission, students will have the opportunity to spend time with Truffle and, should they wish, play an active role in his care as he grows up with them.

The welfare of Truffle and the health and safety of all pupils and staff is paramount and as such a risk assessment has been put in place by the school. Bernese Mountain dogs are renowned for their superb temperament and patience with young children.
