Truro High School’s Greenpower team is celebrating with three of its cars qualifying for the Greenpower International Finals, which are set to take place at Goodwood this October.

Following a fantastic race day at Castle Combe last weekend, the Green Goddess, Kernow Kittz and Green Gladiator will now take on the country’s brightest and best racers at the world-famous motor circuit.

The Castle Combe heat took place on Sunday 5 September, just two days into the new academic year, and involved a 10-hour long day of racing – showing the immense dedication of the students, teachers and volunteers who are part of the school’s Greenpower Engineering Project.

Amongst those supporting the team was former McLaren and Williams engineer, James Robinson, who once again rolled up his sleeves to help the school’s crew carry out repairs in the pits.

The qualifications follow an impressive season for the team which included winning Gold and Silver for the Kernow Kittz and Green Gladiator cars at Predannack Race Circuit during the Summer.

Alongside their packed enrichment schedule of dance lessons, sports clubs, languages workshops, enterprise projects, first aid training and so much more, students have been building the cars every week in the school’s engineering workshop since the last autumn in preparation for the Greenpower race season.

As a result of its reputation for engineering, Truro High is a three-time recipient of the Spirit of Greenpower award and the only school in the country to be recognised as an official club by Motorsport UK – a first in UK automotive history which enables students to undertake specialist motorsport training and even work trackside at Formula 1 events.
