Prep 6 Poppy, Year 7 Bella, Year 7 Sophie, Year 7 Edie and Year 7 Camilla have been selected to train at the U13 Cornwall Satellite Netball Academy.

The selection process has been long and rigorous lasting over several months. Hundreds of the county’s top female players try-out for the academy with 80 applying for the under 13 age group alone.

Against this tough competition, the girls proved their prowess on the court and excelled throughout the trial phase. Only 20 players were selected in their age group.

Prep 6 Poppy impressed coaches so much that she was fast-tracked to the team despite being significantly younger than many of her competitors. Spots are usually only open to girls in Year 7 & 8.

Director of Sport, Ms Kat Barbery-Redd said: “These try-outs involve hundreds of children across all age groups so it’s an incredible achievement for the girls to be chosen. Our coaches, Miss Fry and Mrs Tregay, have been helping them prepare with vigorous training sessions and I’m delighted that it’s all paying off. It’s really important to us that we offer opportunities for girls to reach an elite level in a wide range of sports and I’m looking forward to seeing the girls continue to progress.”

The Academy is a key step in the Cornwall County Player Pathway and, if the girls impress during their time there, they will have the opportunity to progress to regional and national level competitions.
