Let’s celebrate! Our Prep girls have been crowned top in the county in a mathematics competition that involved students up to and including those studying GCSEs.

Against tough competition from 764 keen mathematicians, some of whom were more than twice their age, the school’s Prep 4 class took 1st place, the Prep 6 class 2nd and the Prep 5 class 7th in the latest Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Sumdog Maths Contest.

Truro High’s students monopolised the Top 10 with Prep 5 Verity placing 3rd, Prep 6 Ornela 4th and Prep 4 Bella 6th.

There were also celebrations for Prep 4 Georgie, Prep 4 Cordie, Prep 4 Ava, Prep 4 Alice, Prep 4 Freya, Prep 5 Basma, Prep 6 Mia, Prep 6 Millie and Prep 6 Jyoti who ranked in the top 50 students in Cornwall.

A number of secondary schools took part in the competition meaning that Truro High’s Prep girls were pitted against students up to and including Year 10.

Sumdog is an online games-based learning platform, accessed by thousands of pupils nationwide. In the contest, pupils have to answer up to 1000 maths questions within a week. Their score is based on the speed and accuracy of their answers with questions pitched at their appropriate learning level.

Head of Prep, Mrs Katie Hinks: “I am unbelievably proud of this incredible collective effort! The competition is as much about teamwork as mathematical proficiency and these girls are an amazingly united group – they really know how to collaborate. I can’t wait to see the results of the nationals!”

Spurred on by their success, the girls have just started competing in the Sumdog National Maths Contest today.
