Truro High joins leading schools from across the globe in being recognised as one of the world’s top schools, at the forefront of educational practice. As an accredited World Class School, Truro High School has demonstrated expertise in contemporary learning science and introduced the contemporary High Performance Learning which systematically builds the cognitive competencies that research demonstrates lead to success. The school is confirmed as a world-class institution offering unparalleled learning outcomes for its students.
The accolade marks the end of a two year journey for the school to introduce the framework and philosophy of HPL, High Performance Learning, which equips each student with advanced cognitive skills and the essential values, attitudes and attributes that they will need for lifelong success.
Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Matthews said: “I am delighted that after our recent accreditation inspection, Truro High School has been awarded World Class School status, an accolade reserved for the most successful schools working with the High Performance Learning group. This is testament to the diligent work of the staff and students of Truro High School in embracing and embedding this outstanding pedagogical development with the enthusiasm it deserves, as it will ensure our girls have the skills and habits of mind to ensure they are successful learners who stand out in any field; who have the confidence to think for themselves and drive their own learning and professional development in any future university or workplace.”
“We are already seeing an impact in school, enhancing the already celebrated positive learning culture that Truro High School is widely known for, but with HPL the sky really is the limit, and we look forward to the girls reaping the additional rewards this will bring in the future as we stride boldly forward in continued implementation. My gratitude also goes to Mrs Joanna House and Mrs Katie Hinks, our HPL leads, for their energy and drive in sensitively weaving the philosophy through all we do at THS.”
High Performance Learning uses a unique teaching and learning framework to establish an ambitious school culture and achieve exceptional student outcomes by instilling skills including hard work, open-mindedness, strategy planning, reflection, connection finding, problem-solving, adaptability, and the willingness to be 10% braver.
Sarah Matthews said: “The HPL philosophy has its basis in years of dedicated research into the development of the brain and how the most successful students learn. Adopting HPL means the school recognises that ALL students can aim for the top and get there, with the mentoring and support they need. HPL recognises that students are individuals and that they have a personal learning journey, encouraging students to take academic risks and not be afraid of being in ‘the learning pit’, because they are explicitly taught the skills to climb their way out, breaking their own glass ceilings as they do.”
“It will allow our girls to build academic confidence and ultimately become the fearless learners that will make a difference to the world, as empathy and an appreciation for the development of the global community is part of the philosophy too. HPL was chosen for Truro High School as there is a keen focus on personal empowerment without ever compromising the individual well-being of the student and this is at the heart of our school ethos – it is a perfect match for who we are. “
The award was granted following an inspection of the school with the report commenting: “Aspirations are high for all at Truro High School and the impact of HPL is evident in the resilience and growing independence of the girls, which is seen and heard throughout the school. Pupils are articulate, determined and are real champions of the school, with an awareness that staff provide numerous high-quality activities, clubs and opportunities for them to develop and grow.”
