Katie Hinks is an experienced Head Teacher as well as being a published author. She will move to Cornwall this summer with her husband and young twins to take up her position at Truro High which is one of the country’s leading girls’ schools.

Katie said: “I am incredibly excited to take up the position of Head of Prep at THS. The school’s philosophy is closely aligned to my own: I firmly believe that children learn best when they are in a nurturing environment, where their happiness is highly valued. The exciting and dynamic curriculum and the breadth of opportunities offered to the girls at THS is impressive and I cannot wait to be a part of it!”

During her six years as Principal, Katie has more than doubled the size of her current school and firmly believes in providing a rich curriculum and instilling a love of learning and enquiry.

She said: “I am passionate about ensuring that the needs of all children are met: always ensuring that an appropriate level of challenge is in place to enable every individual to achieve their very best. Integrity and fairness are at the centre of all I do. Positive relationships and a sense of empathy, underpinned by a guiding principle, which is centred around the very best interests of the children, are at the core of my educational philosophy.”

After 13 years in the British West Indies, Katie is looking forward to returning to the UK and will move to Cornwall over the summer with her husband and 4-year-old twins. In her spare time, Katie loves swimming, paddleboarding and boating and will also be looking to join a local book group. She is herself a published author having spent two years producing a book about the Turks and Caicos Islands after realising there was nothing available to teach her pupils about the island where they lived.

Truro High Headmistress Sarah Matthews welcomed Katie, saying: “We are tremendously excited to have such a fantastic, forward-thinking and experienced, practitioner joining us. THS always attracts a strong field of educators wishing to work with our motivated and well-mannered students and this round of recruitment was no different. Katie’s energy, enthusiasm, creativity and dedication to valuing and nurturing the children as individuals made her the perfect choice to lead our thriving Prep School.”

Katie takes over as Head of Prep from Annabel Ramsey who is bidding a fond farewell to the school in order to fulfil a long-held ambition to travel the world with her husband-to-be.

Truro High Prep is a sought-after school for girls aged 4 to 11 and shares the same site as the senior school which is nationally recognised as a leader in girls’ education.
