Former Head Girl Sage is celebrating having received offers to read English Literature from the universities of Edinburgh, Exeter and Bristol – all UK Top 10 and Russell Group institutions.

The University of Edinburgh ranks 3rd in the UK for English Language and Literature in the latest QS University Rankings. Globally, the university places 7th in the world – a further rise of two places from last year, consolidating its place in the World Top 10.

Exeter is home to one of the leading English departments in the UK, placing in the Top 10 in all UK university league tables and 4th in the UK for research power in English.

Bristol consistently ranks in the UK’s top ten universities in league tables as well as being one of the 10 universities most targeted by top employers. Its School of Humanities has three Nobel Laureates – Sir Winston Churchill, Harold Pinter and Jean-Marie Gustave le Clézio – associated with it and its graduates – such as authors Angela Carter, actor Emily Watson, writer and filmmaker Asitha Ameresekere, and author and screenwriter David Nicholls – have had their talents recognised by a range of prestigious literary and cultural award-givers, including the Booker Prize, the BAFTAs, the Oliviers and the Oscars.

Sage said: “I feel really proud to have been accepted into such amazing universities – all the hard work feels worth it!”

“The school has provided me with so many amazing opportunities especially the chance to be Head Girl, which provided me the platform to make my voice heard and take the initiative to inspire real change in the school. It’s something which I think really boosted my application.”

Alongside her A Level studies and being Head Girl, Sage has done everything at school from training to teach English as a foreign language to penning a research paper uncovering the truth about South Africa’s canned hunting trade as part of the EPQ.

Last week, she was even reporting on the comings and goings of the G7 summit being one of just 13 young journalists to be chosen to be part of the Young People’s News Hub.
