Involving schools from across Cornwall, this intensive one-day course offered GCSE pupils the opportunity to discuss issues at the heart of modern living alongside Dr Vardy, who is the former Vice Principal of Heythrop College, University of London – the leading specialist in Religious Philosophy and Ethics college in the country.

The conference offered a fascinating insight into many of the exciting topics covered in GCSE Religious Studies and challenged pupils to develop strong, coherent arguments to help them stand out in the exam hall. 

Fast-paced lectures about a host of issues ranging from the meaning of god to IVF were interspersed with discussions, debates and short ‘buzz’ activities.

Religious Philosophy & Ethics teacher, Mr Peter Mothersole said: “Today’s discussions have really shown that RP is a cutting-edge subject which considers the core issues which shape the world we live in.

“The conference has been invaluable in terms of enriching pupils’ learning experience, improving their grades and helping them to appreciate the benefits of studying the subject at A Level and beyond. Inspiring our girls to think critically, share their opinions and spark debate is at the heart of everything we do at Truro High, and it’s been wonderful to see to girls really getting into the spirit of enquiry.”
