The Truro High Family
Winner of Best Independent Girls’ Day and Boarding School – South West 2023, Truro High offers an award winning education in a vibrant and holistic learning environment for girls aged 3 to 18 in a warm, family atmosphere where all girls are supported and challenged to become the very best that they can be.
In 2023 Truro High was also shortlisted for Independent Girls’ School of the Year, a finalist for the Tes EYFS Setting of the Year and was Highly Commended for Tes Best STEM Teaching. 2024 has been equally humbling. Truro High was named winner of Most Dedicated Girls’ School – South West and one of only 6 finalists for Independent Girls’ School of the Year.
Deliberately small, the school is proud that every one of its 400 students are individually known and nurtured from those taking their first tentative steps into reception class to those in Year 13, confidently setting off to the world’s leading universities.
Set just 10 minutes’ drive from the nearest golden beach in beautiful sunny Cornwall, Truro High is a place where girls are empowered to be their authentic selves, to get involved and to have a go. Confidence is grown and learning is without limits with an abundance of opportunities allowing girls to push to degree level in all subjects.
Relationships are at the heart of the school’s success with girls forming strong bonds with their teachers and with each other. Girls make friends for life at Truro High with younger pupils benefitting from older mentors and senior students making the most of the many leadership opportunities.
Headmistress, Sarah Matthews, and Head of Prep, Katie Hinks, lead a team of experienced and dynamic teachers who share a 15 acre leafy campus in the heart of Truro, just a short walk from the city centre.
Students benefit from specialist teaching and expert coaching in every discipline, for example, from the age of four all girls are taught hockey by England Hockey’s Coach of the Year 2019. The school offers superb facilities to support and enable learning at every level ranging from a 22.5 metre indoor swimming pool, sports pitches, netball and tennis courts to a dance studio, black box theatre, outdoor education centre and engineering room. In every subject we have the expertise and equipment to allow students to push to degree level ranging from a professional sublimation fabric printer in our Textiles department to a music suite equipped with industry standard Sibellius software.
The welcoming family feel is very much a part of Truro High with parents introduced to other families in their class and encouraged to get involved in a whole host of community events and activities ranging from Dance Show LIVE! to school plays and from casual social evenings like ‘Gin and Jazz’ and ‘Bingo and Biryani’ to the glamour of our Summer Ball and classic car show.
Every year we ask our parents to choose any three words to describe a typical Truro High student. The most popular choices are almost always Happy, Confident and Polite and we firmly believe that this is a direct result of being able to watch their daughters grow up in an environment where every girl matters and every girl thrives.
