Over the half term holiday, a group of our senior girls had the incredibly special opportunity to fly across the world to Cambodia to visit Brasat Primary School. Through the incredible charity Edukid, we have partnered with Brasat Primary for a number of years to raise funds and support their children through primary education.

Since Truro High School have been partnered with Brasat Primary, attendance at the school has more than doubled.

The girls were able to witness first-hand the amazing work that Edukid and their partners Care for Cambodia do. In Phnom Penh, the team worked to prepare school packs for donation to the children in the village, full of uniforms, stationery, exercise books and recycled whiteboards.

Whilst in Phnom Penh, the girls met some university students and graduates who have been sponsored in their education by Edukid. An evening boat trip along the river past the king’s palace allowed everybody to bond, and the students even challenged our girls to sample some local delicacies such as cooked frogs and insects!

The girls then journeyed into the countryside and stayed in a traditional Cambodian homestay in Brasat. In the daytime, the girls visited Brasat School to help run activities with the children, from arts and crafts to even running their own lesson teaching the children English animal names and noises! The girls helped to distribute the school packs to the children too, the contents of which were purchased with the money that we had fundraised at Truro High School.

In the evening at the homestay, the girls heard the stories of the Care for Cambodia leaders, and how they overcame personal tragedies and great difficulties in their determination to provide an education to the children of Cambodia.

The girls also had the chance to explore some of Cambodia’s cultural highlights to broaden their understanding of this richly cultured country.

We are beyond pleased to have forged this incredible partnership, and we can’t wait to continue fundraising to ensure the education of the children for years to come.
