MasterChef 2018 quarter-finalist and Persian food specialist, Kate Attlee added spice to our bespoke cookery programme, ‘Taste' at Truro High, last night when she joined our students for their latest chef's table masterclass.

The masterclass introduced students to dishes ranging from her signature Sabzi House Dhal to traditional Iranian flatbreads.

Kate owns and runs Sabzi, an award-winning takeaway deli in Truro specialising in beautiful, creative food and drinks including seasonal salads, hot dahl, coffee and pressed to order juice.

A former MasterChef quarter-finalist, Kate wowed presenters Jon Torode and Gregg Wallace in the 2018 series with dishes inspired by her Iranian father’s cooking.

She said: “For me, food is totally built on community and eating together – it’s an expression of love. Food is a vehicle for being with other people so I cook from that place. I’m a big believer in food that is accessible so tonight has been about making food that is transferable into real life. I think it’s really special to learn food that you might not have at home but that you can take home and actually make it for your family.”

The masterclass is one of many which have taken place as part of the bespoke cookery programme this autumn. These include sessions with Mariana Chaves, former Head Pastry Chef at Fifteen Cornwall; Annie Seabourne from My Fish Kitchen and Rupert Cooper, the head tutor and owner of Philleigh Way Cookery School.

Students are also learning a host of high-level cookery skills with course leader and Cordon-Bleu trained chef Fyonah Ferris.
