Against tough competition from 550 keen mathematicians, some of whom were almost twice her age, Prep 5 Verity took first place in the latest Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Sumdog Maths Contest. It’s the second time that Verity has ranked as Cornwall’s top mathematician.
A real team effort, the success came across the board with Prep 5 ranking 2nd and Prep 6 3rd in the entire competition.
There were also celebrations for Prep 5 Lucy who placed 7th in the entire competition.
Our students monopolised the Top 50 with Basma, Delilah, Isabelle, Ornela, Medine, Florence, Poppy, Lorna, Mia and Steren all earning sought-after spots.
A number of secondary schools took part in the competition meaning that Truro High’s Prep girls were pitted against students up to and including Year 10.
Sumdog is an online games-based learning platform, accessed by thousands of pupils nationwide. In the contest, pupils have to answer up to 1,000 maths questions within a week. Their score is based on the speed and accuracy of their answers with questions pitched at their appropriate learning level.
It’s an exciting time for the Prep School mathematicians – in March, our Prep 4 class took 3rd place, the Prep 5 class 8th and the Prep 6 class 9th in England in the National Sumdog Maths Contest. We were the only school in Cornwall to make the Top 10.
