There are celebrations at top all-girls’ school, Truro High, which has just been crowned the UK’s top Small Independent School in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards.

The only school in Cornwall to be shortlisted for these prestigious awards before being named a finalist this September, the school’s competition was whittled down from hundreds from across the UK to just five.

Charlotte Avery, Headmistress of St Mary’s School, Cambridge and competition judge commended the school for “its ambitious and inclusive approach to education and for offering an enormous range of opportunities to its students.”

Finalists from across 20 different categories include schools such as Epsom College, Wycombe Abbey, Rugby School, Sherborne Girls and Millfield School.

Showcasing the excellence of the educational experience available to students of all backgrounds, the awards recognise and applaud the varied and imaginative ways in which independent schools prepare young people for their future lives.

Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Matthews said: “I am beyond elated. To have the external recognition that our school is about so much more than incredible academics and, in fact, a national leader in providing unparalleled opportunities to every single student is a real honour.”

“Our girls embrace every opportunity and work incredibly hard to achieve their best in every situation – they are a joy to work with and the reason that our dedicated members of staff continue innovating and enhancing the opportunities on offer here. We want to be at the cutting edge of education and that provision will continue to adapt for the modern world in order to equip our girls with the skills they need to thrive in whatever future they choose.”
“Our community stretches far beyond the school gates and each and every member should recognise their part in this achievement – what makes a school is its community and I couldn’t be more proud of ours.”
