The cove hasn’t had a lifeguard service so far this year.

A keen swimmer, Hannah trained as a lifeguard and first aider here at school and undertook her Beach Lifeguard training qualification last year. She now keeps an eye on visitors alongside a qualified Beach Warden, who is over 18.

Their lifesaving work has included guiding people out of rip currents. warning members of the public about high tides and even escorting elderly visitors over the rocks when the tide was coming in.

Hannah said: “Due to Covid 19, we aren’t allowed to get in the sea to help people and would call the coastguard if someone was in trouble. Our role is to prevent an accident from happening and to identify anyone who needs help.”

Aiming to embark on a career in medicine, Hannah has been part of the THS family since she was 9-years-old. She is a STEM Ambassador and takes part in the school’s Aspiring Medics Programme as well as offering her expertise to younger students in lunchtime science clinics. She also volunteers weekly with our Pre-Prep pupils, helping them to develop their reading and writing skills.

When she’s not preparing for her application to medical school, Hannah can often be found in the swimming pool. She is Vice-Captain of Truro City Swimming Club and has competed at a national level for the last three years.
